We usually tend to have aching back or pain in our neck when we are anxious or stressed. When you have anxiety or stress in your life, one of the ways your body responds is with muscle tension. Progressive muscle relaxation is a method that helps relieve that tension. Progressive muscle relaxation is a deep relaxation technique that has been effectively used to control stress and anxiety, relieve sleep issues and reduce symptoms of certain types of chronic pain. This technique is based upon the simple practice of tensing or tightening one muscle group at a time followed by a relaxation phase with the release of the tension.
