Are you feeling a little uncared for? Many factors, such as family caregiving responsibilities, employment, social commitments, and others, can prevent us from taking care of ourselves. But, in the end, we are best equipped to show up for all of the other people and obligations in our lives when we take care of ourselves and our needs.

Self-care is not selfish. Focusing on what nourishes us and gives us meaning is part of reducing stress and anxiety and providing a more stable foundation. Self-care is more than just treating oneself to a large treat or a luxurious moment. The art of simple self-care is far more internally fulfilling than that, and it takes some time to master given our proclivity to prioritize others before ourselves. Self-care should be more of a daily discipline, frequently consisting of tiny but significant objectives that keep you energised, satisfied, and ready to show up for others. Here are a few strategies to practice self-care to enhance your mental health:

Make sleep a priority

There are numerous factors that can disrupt our sleep, such as a late night at work, a crazy night with friends, or simply catching up on "Controversy." The problem is that sleep deprivation reduces job productivity, causes us to consume excessive meals, and may lead to ailments such as heart disease and diabetes. Make sleeping a priority for a healthier, happier you, even if it's just a little nap during your break at work.

Throw a little dance party

Our lives are so hectic and scheduled these days that it's crucial to remember to relax and spend time with our loved ones. Make plans with friends, watch your favourite television show, or turn on some music and dance your way through the day in the middle of your room.

Get organised to take care of yourself

Getting organised is frequently the first step toward becoming a healthier you since it allows you to determine exactly what you need to do to properly care for yourself. A simple modification, such as having a planner or a calendar on the refrigerator, can help you keep track of all your duties and appointments while also making your life more organised. You can also pre-pack your required items so they're ready to go the next day.

Every day, move for at least 30 minutes

You don't have to do a full-body workout every day, but getting in at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise, whether it's a solid gym session or a lunchtime stroll, is just as beneficial to your mental health as it is to your physical health. You don't have to do it all at once; if you can't manage a full half hour, take three 10-minute walks.

Face your negativity on paper

Note down the lies—the negative self-talk, the self-doubt—and then combat them with what you know to be true, with what you are capable of. Putting it down on paper allows you to recognise the negative while not allowing it to overpower the positives in your life.

When needed, say "No."

Recognising and accepting your personal boundaries is a great way to practice self-care. Many people struggle with creating proper (physical and emotional) boundaries with others, which might lead them to commit to activities they would rather not do. Many voices in your head may drive you to say yes when you actually want to say no, and the most prominent of these voices is the one that tells you that if you say no, you risk

being despised. You must learn to bear the anxiety that saying no will almost certainly cause. When you master this skill, you'll discover that people don't blame you for it. They will likely appreciate you much more as a result.
