Ho’oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian practice of healing through forgiveness. Ho’o means ‘to make‘ and pono ‘right‘ – the double use of pono means with both yourself and others. It is a prayer for forgiveness and a great mantra for clearing the slate.

According to Ho'oponopono, everything in your world is what your mind perceives. Your relationships and the people you know are influenced by your inner-self. Practising this ritual allows you to let go of negative emotions particularly anger and resentment It is a great way to improve your relationships. Or let go of situations, past issues, and ‘wrongs’.

To practice ho’oponopono meditation, take a few deep breaths with your eyes closed. Then, slowly repeat the below mantras to yourself about 7 or 8 times.

Step 1:
Focus on a specific person or situation that has upset you

This could be a situation or a person who might have upset you right now or in the past. The procedure entails forgiving oneself as well as those with whom you have a bad energy connection. Forgiveness is about sending unconditional love and forgiveness into space regardless of who was right or if you were wronged or harmed by the other person. Work through the four stages once you've brought this circumstance or person into your space and repeat the mantras out loud and feel the meaning behind them.

Step 2:
Repentance – ''I’M SORRY''

Try to pick something that you are already aware you have caused for yourself. Do you struggle with rage? Do you have any health issues? Begin thereby apologizing. "I'M SORRY," repeat it. However, It is more powerful if you state it more clearly: “I recognize that I am responsible for the (issue) in my life and I feel terrible remorse that something in my consciousness has caused this.”

Step 3:
Request Forgiveness - ''PLEASE FORGIVE ME''

Don't worry about who you're asking. Just ask! PLEASE FORGIVE ME. Repeat it, say ‘’I really mean it’’. Remember your remorse from step 2 when you ask for forgiveness.

Step 4:
Say ''THANK YOU''

Keep saying thank you repetitively. Gratitude towards the universe is an important part of the healing process in Ho’oponopono. Saying thank you for all the forgiveness, thank you for all the change within you, Feel thankful and appreciative of everything you have, for letting go of the negativity, and finally give thanks to yourself for being who you are.

Step 5:
Show love - say ''I LOVE YOU''

In this space of unconditional love, project it inwards and outwards, let unconditional love heal you. Love yourself, your body, the air you breathe, the world around us, all of the people within it. Love is a very powerful emotion. Say I love you to yourself, to god, to your body, to the sheltering house you live in, to your surroundings. Love is a powerful emotion, with love comes layers of warmth and security.

The four-affirmation Ho'oponopono mantra can lead you to extraordinary self-growth and actualisation. As you recite the Ho'oponopono mantra, you will find peace and security in yourself through forgiveness and love.
